My kid buys a hat

On Tuesday, I tweeted this:

We were at Target solely because there’s a Best Buy on the floor below, and he wanted to get a new headset for his computer without waiting for online delivery. And why not pop in to Target to see if he could replace his old Minecraft baseball cap?

He looked good in that fedora, but he went with a plain black cap instead. Then we got home and discovered the headset was fucked up.

His mom took him back there yesterday to return the headset for a new (more expensive! grr!) model, and while they were there, he decided to rethink that hat.

Picture posted with his permission:

When he was small, we always said The days take forever but the years fly by. Now that we know we may only have him for another six years, it doesn’t seem like enough.

The fedora was an awesome choice. He looks spiff.

I'm glad he reconsidered. As a fellow lover of hats and a person who lives in a rainy city, I refuse to give up the fedora, no matter the "neckbeards".

Mine turned 18 in December. So, yeah. :)

Has yours moved out yet? Or are you expecting it in the fall?

I'm expecting the empty nest syndrome to hit us hard.

We're moving to cross-country in late fall, and I have no idea how long he'll want to stay with me before striking out. He isn't going to college directly, though. He wants to work for a year, save money, then spend some months traipsing overseas. That's the point I might start eating my fingernails. :)
