Randomness for 8/26

1) Wheel of Misfortune. Love this comic. Love. It.

2) Every JRPG ever: Video. Reader, I laughed at them.

3) Exotic polyhedra dice, made of marble, gator jawbones, carbon fiber, and more.

4) Hole Quest: Ryan North live-tweeted the thrilling 40 minutes he was stuck in an empty pool with his dog.

5) 15 Delicious Regional Sandwiches. A chow mein sandwich? I don’t think so.

6) Texts from HP Lovecraft. This made me laugh.

7) Ten tabletop games that you can play as couples. Video.

I wanted eldritch non-euclidean polyhedral dice. Who cares what they are made of.

That would be cyclopean.

Wait -- Fluffernutters weren't invented in the 1960s? I had no idea they went back farther under another name.

I'm from Massachusetts. I remember when they were immensely popular with my friends, but I never cared for them.

I remember hot browns from when we lived in Kentucky; you really can't get a good one anywhere outside Louisville.

I'm a bit surprised they didn't mention muffalettas, or Philly cheese steak, or any of several other local specialties I'm familiar with.

Oh -- and I never saw a chow mein sandwich in Massachusetts, but there's a place in Des Moines, Iowa, that makes them.

I never heard of them until we ate at that weird place in south Des Moines. It's nominally a Chinese restaurant, but it's been there over sixty years and has become a strange mutant hybrid of Cantonese and Midwestern Americana, serving things like egg fu young in beef gravy.

I wonder if cheese steaks are too mainstream for an article like this.

Could be. Or maybe it was just one of those, "Oh, jeez, how'd we miss that?" moments that come up when making lists like this.
