Because of my new, weird work schedule (essentially, three days of day job, one day of solo kid patrol, one family day and two days off while my son is in school (usually), I've decided to create a weekly word count goal instead of a daily one.
It'll only be 5K words a week, Sunday to Friday. On kid and work days, I have a goal of a modest 500 words. On the two days off, my goal will be 1,500 words. If I make my goal by Friday night, I can have Saturday off to spend with my family (and watch cartoons). If not, I'll have to make up those lost words while Skunk Fu and Get A Clue, Scooby Doo! are on.
If I stick to that, I'll have a rough draft by mid May. Personally, I think that goal is a little modest. I'll raise it if I find I'm meeting it easily, as I did this week. (I already reached 5K this morning). Then again, I don't expect a restless kid and a relentless cough to roust me out of bed at 3:30 am every day for 18 weeks. We'll see.
