Tonight, though, I turned it on for a couple minutes and happened to catch Diablo Cody's win and speech. I was happy to see her win and hear her acceptance. There's been some flak aimed at her for being a former stripper; of course these people think she sold a script because of her sex appeal. Having read an interview where she said people have been telling her all her life that she wasn't pretty enough, and now people are saying she's succeeding only because of her looks, well, I was kinda rooting for her.
So I was happy that she won, but at the same time I was sorry for all the writers out there who've put the years in and lost to someone with her first produced picture. And while I know the statuette is wonderful validation, I'm also well aware it won't stop people talking shit about her.
But it's someone else's melodrama and I don't care all that much. It's amazing how fast something that seemed so vital can become utterly trivial.
And summer season. Being a nerdy white guy, I wrote mostly summer adventure movies.
