I have a lot of sympathy for writers who feel pressured to write a book a year whether they write best-sellers or not.

I imagine the pressure on some of these bestsellers to stick within their series and still be original can be pretty intense.

No kidding. What letter is Sue Grafton up to now? (Rhetorical question: I know it's "U") Jim Butcher has written ten Harry Dresden novels so far and is planning ten more--and at the back of each of his Dresden books is an appeal for readers to try his horse-and-sword series.

It gives me the willies just thinking about it.

Of course, if someone backed a truck full of cash up to my door, I'd make the effort--at least for a while.

The creepiest part is that some of them are actually well meaning.

Yeah. It's godawful what people will do when they have authority and no fear about using it.
