I was just talking about this yesterday with Salad Eater. Most years, the crows have their little ones in early summer, and spend hours every morning screaming warnings to their babies and anyone who walks by. There are always a couple attacks on locals, and it becomes impossible to sleep late for all the "AW! AW! AW! AW! AW! AW! AW! AW! AW! AW!"
I hate them. But they haven't been around this year at all. I haven't heard them (until today) and spent part of yesterday discussing it with my wife. She thinks they followed a food source out of the neighborhood, but I suspect someone might have put out poison.
Something else: Most summers our front steps are thick with spider webs every morning. I've gotten used to holding a stick in front of me as I walk through them.
That hasn't been happening this year. Also, the blackberries are ripening very late. Very late.
Not sure what's going on, but it's weird.
