Going for it, outline-wise

It's strange how tentative I've been with my outline. I've been stuck near the beginning, but I refused to let myself get too stressed about it. I had written down everything I'd figured out so far minus one (and Pikachu forbid that I write down everything and have nothing left to add!) but whatever was coming beyond that was lost in a fog. There were characters out in that fog, and huge piles of money, guns, firebombs, idiotic dreams, fierce parental love, a tear-gas grenade and a red painted circle on a concrete floor somewhere, but I had no idea which was coming next.

Eventually, I realized that I was holding the story back. I was trying to prevent all the cool stuff from coming out right away. Why? I don't know, but the way to write a fun book is not to restrict the fun stuff. That's certainly not how I write a draft, anyway. I like characters that charge ahead, and once I slipped the reins off my outline, it started rushing ahead nicely. It's not finished yet, but it is moving forward again.

In other news, it's 53 degrees here, which means we have driving rains, strong winds and flooding. The towns of Duvall and Carnation are expected to be cut off from the rest of Western WA when the Woodinville-Duvall Road floods (and possibly washes away) tonight.

Fun fun.

ETA: Hey, budo1, thanks for the note you posted on Amazon.com.
