Thank you. Also: links

Thank you to everyone who commented on the cover art in my previous post. I’m very happy with it. The only decision I have left is whether to make my default LiveJournal icon out of the entire cover, as Anton Strout does, or just a blow-up of the head the way Tim Pratt does. What do you think?

Child of Fire Icon

or

Child of Fire Head Icon

?

Your input would be appreciated.

Also, I have been somewhat foolish in that I have not been providing links to the actual book at actual websites where you could actually purchase it if you actually wanted to. So! If you’d like to buy the book, now you can at any of these fine online retailers: Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble online or Mysterious Galaxy.

And now I go back to my regular life. FYI: the boy is off school this whole week, so I expect to fall behind on reading my f-list and not catch up for quite a while.

Enjoy your day!

I say do the whole book...it's a little more free advertising!

I admit I'm a little concerned with the aliasing that comes from reducing the image. It's not too rough?

I can photoshop it for you if you like? I did Anton's christmas hat bedecked Simon for him.. it would be quick!

I'm not sure it really needs it. It seems okay.

And you have enough on your mind right now, I think.

Weeeeeelllllllll, I kinda like the one I already have better. I like the way the fire looks, and it has my name on it, too. The face is definitely better on yours, and the text is slightly clearer. But I'm sticking with the one I have.

Thank you very much, though.

Do the head, and then put Child of Fire in text on the side since there's so much negative space near his head.

Anyway to get yer hands on the cover art sans the text?

That's an interesting idea. I'll admit that I see an awful lot of deeply obscure userpics, mainly around TV shows I don't watch (although I've learned to recognize most of the actors on CRIMINAL MINDS by now) with equally obscure text around it.

I'd need to think up with a way to make it say This is a book. But I'd have to do that with a text-free head icon, too.

Hmm.

oooh, I don't know. I like the head better, but the other icon says your name and such.

Maybe, since this is your first book, you should go for as much recognition as possible and use the whole cover?

"Whole cover" is way ahead in votes.

Whole cover. The head only might leave people thinking it is you. Also, advertising is advertising.

2ndly, Do you have your own web site? Get an Amazon button and Every one who goes thru that and buys something kicks a bit back to you. A friend of mine does that and gets $ for anything the person buys. Porn, cameras, books, whatever.

I do have my own site (the link is in the upper left) and the link to buy the book is part of the Amazon.com Affiliate program (or whatever they're calling it).

I hesitate to point that out too clearly, though.

I see a lot of unexplained heads as icons. Kinda don't like them. I see that the size of the icon will be a bit of the problem, but still.

How about just the fire?

"Just the fire" is an interesting idea. Thanks.

whole cover. I can't tell what the other one is without context, although it is purty.

Oh yeah. Like the lawyers who get obvious really venal criminals off because it makes their success rate look good. But those are not the ones I am referring to in meaning well. These guys are mixed…

Yeah. It's godawful what people will do when they have authority and no fear about using it.
