Game of Cages will be coming out on the last day of the month, so I’ve decided to hold a special month of book giveaways. Every day (unless I screw up, which I probably will) I’ll give away a book or themed set of books to someone who asks for it. To enter, you have to comment on this blog or on my LiveJournal–email, Facebook, and Twitter won’t count, and if more than one person speaks up, I’ll roll a die to determine the recipient. U.S. residents only, please.

You get a new book every day, and on the last day of the month I’ll give away my own.

Today’s book:

I read this book. It’s well-written, but I barely remember anything about it. Are you a fan of her work? Want to give it a try?

Update: This item has been won.

I'm interested. I don't think I've ever read anything by her. Is this a standalone or at least the first in a series (so I'm not dropped in the middle)?

It's a standalone. I've added you to the list. Only two requests so far.

I like McKillip but read this already and don't collect her. Enjoy, eventual winner!

You didn't say what kind of die you're rolling. d4, d6, d8, d12, d20, d30, d100?

My Seagram's bag seems to have shed itself of 4- and 8-siders. So far, it's all be d6.

I do own three ten-siders, and can accomodate 1000 entrants.

Without 8-siders how can you roll hit points?

I hope I won't be doing any damage!

These are random wilderness encounters for my PCs (Personal Copies... of good books) so d6 or however many sides I need will do fine.

Besides, I've played more Champions than D&D.

Even with my bad flash reflecting off the cover?

You're on the list (just under the wire, too.) Oh, wait, it was the other one where you were just under the wire. Never mine.

You're still on the list, though.

Oh yeah. Like the lawyers who get obvious really venal criminals off because it makes their success rate look good. But those are not the ones I am referring to in meaning well. These guys are mixed…

This reminds me of the time my wife was injured and the insurance guy handling her case did everything possible to deny and stall the payment. We had to put her surgery on a credit card because this…

The creepiest part is that some of them are actually well meaning.

Yeah. It's godawful what people will do when they have authority and no fear about using it.
