Randomness for 8/8

1) The alphabet, carved on the tips of pencils.

2) Kanye West Tweets combined with New Yorker cartoons. It’s not exactly Nietzsche Family Circus, but, um…

3) I don’t even know what to say about this news story. My initial shock at reading it has lessened as I realize this sort of thing isn’t unusual. It wouldn’t be newsworthy at all if not for the Facebook connection.

4) What a bestseller’s marketing push looks like. Someday, this will be me.

5) Amazing Lego Animation. Not for some technical razzle dazzle, but because it is so simply shot and effective. Video

6) It’s hard to believe this isn’t partly cgi in post, but this is a 3D projection onto a building, and it’s mindblowing. Video.

7) “But now, I have successfully shown that I was the best slave.” A New York high school valedictorian delivers a controversial speech against the public school system in which she excelled.

The carved pencils are amazing! Knowing how difficult it is to carve jeweler's wax, which is intended for carving, I can imagine the patience it must take to work teensy graphite.

The graphite carving was pretty crazy. I can't really imagine the size of the tools used.

If you're not aware of it, there's a BBC TV show called James May's Toy Stories, and on tonight's episode he had a two-story house built entirely of Legos. Even the kitchen implements and the toilet were 100% made of Legos. He then lived in the house for 24 hours.

You can probably find it online somewhere. It might be of interest to you and/or the boy.

Aha! I found a piece on it: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1214729/James-May-size-Lego-house-wants.html

Thank you for that. I did post about it a while ago. I even posted about the destruction of the house.

Apparently, May was annoyed that the Lego people said they would take the house to one of their theme parks after the show was done, and the Lego people were annoyed that May built it without talking to them about how it could be put together and then taken apart for the move.

Yeah. It's godawful what people will do when they have authority and no fear about using it.
